A rattle is a percussion instrument. It consists of a hollow body filled with small uniform solid objects, like sand or nuts. Rhythmical shaking of this instrument produces repetitive, rather dry timbre noises. In some kinds of music, a rattle assumes the role of the metronome, as an alternative to the drum. In Urdu language, it is famous by the name of "CHANKANA"
This instrument was used in the ancient world. Today it plays a role in Cha Cha Cha, tango and jazz.
A rattle is an idiophone. Rattles are also used for infants as a toy. In the 18th and 19th centuries, British policemen used a similar device called a "policeman's rattle" to summon assistance.[1]
a rattle is extreamly simple to make. all you need for one is a hollowed out (prefably circular object with a almost bottled neck opening)a stick, and small beads, rice, sand or even sugar (anything small works) 1.place the beads, rice, sugar, etc. in the bottle. 2.slide the stick in the small opening, securing it making sure the beads won't fall out. 3. if you want to you could decorate the rattle to your prefrance. 4.in a rhythmic mannor shake your rattle. and there you have it your very own rattle. P.S i have found that spray bottles work extreamly well for the hollowed out part :)
